They’re trading words for feathers
Off the hats the natives wear

You walk across and see that there are

“Where’d you come from my friend? And do you plan on staying long?”
And he might fix you with a drink

But all along you’ve known that your stay was just the chorus
of a song where after every verse there comes a little more you notice.
Take me back to long ago a hundred thousand songs ago
Take me back to where you learn without trying so hard to know.
Take me back to where the feathers still stay on the birds
And all the bugging hungry men are fed by simply swallowing their words.

Running though the famous Calling getting near And there’s that broken house is in your rear view mirror
They say there’s home in these parts But there’s nothing like home out here.
There’s a cabby, there’s a shabby chic Waiting for a trade, you give her thirteen bucks
She might whisper in your ear
Everything is for sale out here.

The air is falling down and the smoke is piling up
There’s a big black cloud that’s waiting for a drop
Downtown where clown and keeper stand the same.

There’s a pain in our steps and a hole in our shoes
And a soul when we’re walking to the beat with the blues
In the sky that was bright once waiting for the right ones
Now You can go anywhere, you can know anyone
But I know when you’re gone you’ll be lookin’ at the sun
Sayin’ things were looking brighter out there.

Wont you come back home with me
I’ve got a little patch of land and a tree
And a mountain you can have a thousand more
If you look around then you would see

There’s that book they told you, very old but how true

You see the files and the ranks -
there’s no escape or turning back, just these little buttons used to tell apart
the old ones from the new ones and the far too fresh to go ones,
they award them when they’ve broken you apart.
Words unspoken fears unbroken dreams you’ve never woken getting near -
They’re throwing you inside that pit where you find the prize then die with.
You paid a pretty price for it, this sugar coated death for which you waited in a box for all your days.
